Discover the Meaning Behind Joe's This Christmas Lyrics

"Because Africa is not a continent filled with mud huts and starving children. The fact that a group of white people wrote a song with lyrics like 'Pray for the other ones', 'give a little help to the helpless' and 'feed the world' is bad enough. Playing it all these years later?"

joe christmas lyrics

A new generation of animation lovers was introduced to this Christmas classic via the short-lived Comedy Central television series, TV Funhouse, a spin-off of the recurring Saturday Night Live cartoons. In the series' third episode, "Christmas Day", the Hardrock, Coco, and Joe short is satirized under the name "Christmas With Tingles" in which an elf named Tingles magically spreads tension and guilt during the Christmas season. Aside from the subject matter, the spoof stays remarkably faithful to the original, featuring black-and-white stop-motion animation, as well as spoken lyrics backed by an a cappella chorus:

This version is sung later in the episode as Phoebe continues to work on the song in Central Perk. The full lyrics to this song are not heard as Chandler interrupts Phoebe as she is still singing. The lyrics that are heard are:

At this point, Chandler points out that he's not Jewish. Phoebe's response gives us an idea of some of the rest of the lyrics as she says "So? Ross doesn't really decorate his tree with floss but you don't hear him complaining, do you?" The group then turn to discussing Ross' love life, and this version of the song is also abandoned.

Unlike the other two versions, which are only heard by the friends that are present when Phoebe is writing them in the coffee house, the final version is performed publicly in Central Perk. It is sung in the final scene of the episode. The lyrics to this version are:

It was Christmas Eve, 1818, when the now-famous carol was first performed as Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht. Joseph Mohr, the young priest who wrote the lyrics, played the guitar and sang along with Franz Xaver Gruber, the choir director who had written the melody.

Some of a certain age liked Dan Fogelberg. As many thought his lyrics would be best poured on a waffle. I\u2019m somewhere in between. This one will give you diabetes, definitely. But it fits the day. 2ff7e9595c
